Phillis is a widow, but enthusiastic about the future despite her illness. Before she fell ill, she used to do full-time farming but now due to her illness she weaves baskets for a living. Phillis is the breadwinner of her grandchildren whose parents unfortunately passed away. Phillis is saddened by the fact that both of her children passed away but being a hardworking woman, she decided to learn by herself how to wave baskets and join Kithito women’s group. In a week she weaves two to three baskets earning up to six thousand shillings a month, currently weaving baskets is her full-time job. Her earnings have helped her cater for hers and her grandchild needs like school fees and food but above all paying for her hospital bills. She weaves mostly at evenings while she rests.
