All the Mifuko products are handmade by Mifuko artisans in the rural villages of Kenya.
Talented artisans from self-help groups get together and see what the future orders of Kiondos are. Self help groups provide income and sense of belonging to women in small villages.
Baskets and bags are all tightly woven by our women artisans. Weaving of Kiondo baskets is a Kenyan tradition, and the knowledge is passed on from one generation to another. Basket-weaving is an important part of the area´s culture
All materials are locally sourced from producers. Materials are delivered to the women’s self-help groups.
Ready-made baskets are delivered to the Mifukos leather center. Leather is locally sourced, and the quality varies a lot depending where and how the cow has been bred. It is vegetable tanned. Leather is cut and stitched to baskets by our skilled leather artisan partners using traditional techniques.
